The state of Muttrah (in Oman)

The state of Muttrah is one of the most important cities in Omani history as it dated back to the third millennium BC. It located in the northeastern part of Oman in Muscat, where it overlooks the shore of the Oman Sea. Mutrrah linked historically and geographically to Gulf cooperation Council, India, China, Persia and East Africa.

In Muttrah there are many tourist places such as Cornishe, museums, towers and fish market. Also, it has 13 castles like Muttrah castle which was built in 1587. The Omanis built it to protect Oman from the Portuguese. To add more there is Muttrah Souq (market) which is the oldest souq in Oman. Moreover, there is Sultan Qaboos Port. It receives more than 53 thousand tourists during one month in the winter tourism season.

Any visit to the Sultanate of Oman without touring the narrow neighborhoods of Muttrah is an incomplete visit and the market also must be visited whatever it costs you.

  1. Thanks for sharing! I love shopping in traditional markets so I think the Muttrah Souq would be 'right up my alley.' Do they have any second hand shops there with reasonably priced arts and crafts? That kind of shop is my favourite to visit. I have lots of Japanese, Chinese & Thai bric a brac, and I would like to collect some Arab bric a brac. David :-)
